What started as a small group of people looking to bring a little extra wellbeing into their lives quickly blossomed into a thriving, energetic creative hub – and now they’re holding an exhibition to encourage others to join them.
Lancashire Adult Learning is thrilled to announce a vibrant new exhibition at Whalley Library, celebrating the incredible achievements of learners as they progress through a wide range of courses from the creative curriculum.
This special showcase proves that learning is about so much more than passing exams; it’s a powerful tool for boosting mental health, finding joy and connecting with your local community.
Under the supportive guidance of our tutor Helen Wilkinson, learners explored a variety of techniques, including watercolours, printmaking, collage, mark making, book making and more.
Helen says it’s about creating the right environment for inspiration:
“We designed the sessions to ensure absolutely everyone felt capable and ready to dive in, whether they needed a quiet space to recharge from the pressures of daily life or wanted to enjoy a lively chat with new friends sitting nearby.”
The transformation the learners have seen is truly inspiring. People who previously claimed they couldn’t ‘do art’ are now beaming with pride over their creations and confidence continues to grow across the board.
As one learner shared:
“This course has been a chance to explore and experiment with new ideas and sharing ideas with like-minded artists.
“And yes! I now consider myself as an Artist.”
Another participant said:
“These sessions have become one of the highlights of my week – helping me grow in confidence, particularly around my artistic knowledge and skills.”
Getting creative is a fantastic way to unlock your potential while looking after your mental health.
Friendships continue to flourish within the group with one newcomer saying:
“I’m new to the area. How wonderful it has been to meet new friends while experimenting with my creative talents.”
The exhibition will be on display throughout April at Whalley Library.
For many talented learners, taking part has been transformative:
“This has really opened my mind to ideas of finding other courses to participate in.”
