Entry Requirements:
Learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Level 1 and above. Learners will also need a good level of IT skills and access to a computer, laptop or tablet device with access to the internet. The setup of this course enables learners to study independently and flexibly at times convenient to them.

Course Overview
This programme is for learners who want to develop their understanding of Dementia and learn how best to support individuals affected by it. The course covers positive communication techniques and person-centred approaches that consider individual needs. Learners will explore how to provide professional and personal attention during the illness when individuals may be experiencing symptoms like confusion and forgetting things previously known just yesterday.
These may be learners who wish to access this training with a view to progressing to further qualifications or employment within health and social care, to complement other qualifications within health or health and social care, or to develop in their current job role within health and social care.
What will I learn?
This qualification consists of 7 mandatory units which are:
• Dementia awareness • Person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia • Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individualswho have dementia • Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person- centred approach and equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care • Understand behaviour in the context of dementia • Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care
This qualification covers precisely what dementia is and the most common types of dementia. Learners will explore how others can have a positive impact on an individual with dementia through a variety of different techniques and build the knowledge and understanding required to enable an individual with dementia to experience a sense of security and well-being.
Learners will develop awareness of the different communication needs and limitations of individuals with dementia in order to encourage positive interaction.
Learners will be introduced to equality, diversity and inclusion linking in to a person-centred care approach.
They will further their understanding the range of medications available to, and appropriate for, individuals with dementia and exploring specific needs that individuals may have when receiving medication.
Learners will also look at behaviours individuals display once diagnosed with dementia and how to respond to particular types of behaviour.
How is the course delivered?
Learners will be given access to a comprehensive online learning platform which will provide them with detailed knowledge and information to support their successful completion of each unit.
Further self-directed research is encouraged to expand learner’s understanding of key topics.
How will my learning be assessed?
· Clear deadlines will be provided for each unit to ensure the qualification is completed within the set time frame. · Completion and progress on each unit is clearly identified on the learner’s online dashboard. · Learners will receive regular written feedback throughout the course including opportunities for further development.
Additional Information
You will be completing work in relation to each unit, which a range of activities and questioning to allow you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding. You will complete this online using the online platform.
