This course is suitable for most ages and abilities; including beginners to intermediate. It is important that all learners complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire in advance of the course wherever possible, so the teachers are aware of any pre-existing health conditions and appropriate course adaptions can be recommended where necessary. Following completion of this questionnaire and in order to carry out exercise safely, individuals with certain pre-existing health conditions may be required to seek medical advice before completing the course. The teacher will advise individuals on this where necessary.
In order to attend the course, learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry Level 3 and above. The course will be delivered in a classroom setting or online and learners will need to wear comfortable clothing to move in and may be invited to access links via a smartphone (not compulsory).
All learners will need to complete an enrolment form at the start of the session. Some courses may have an electronic enrolment you can complete beforehand, enrolment portal: https://enrol.lal.ac.uk/ If attending an online course: Learners will need a basic level of IT skills to be able to access the course and follow online instructions. Learners will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet device with access to the internet. All devices should have a camera, sound and a microphone so they are able to interact with their teacher and peers during the course. The course will be delivered online using Microsoft Teams or zoom and learners will be sent the join details and links prior to the course. Course Overview
This course is designed for those who wish to understand yoga, and who choose a seated version of the regular standard yoga practice. In this course learners will be building on knowledge gained from the learn the basics course, whilst exploring other elements of the philosophy behind what, why and how we practice,including an introduction to the Chakras and the Sanskrit language used in Yoga.
What will I learn?
During the course learners will get to experience the poses and gain an understanding of yoga and its benefits. At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
1. Describe at least 2 types of yoga and the differentiate between them
2. Name a selection of yoga poses in the English and Sanskrit words
3. Explain the benefits of 2 poses
4. Understand and identify the chakras and their basic meaning
5. Participate in yoga practice and reflect on the benefits
6. Research various yoga accessories
7. Make an informed choice of progression routes and complete end of course feedback and assessment
How is the course delivered?
· The teacher will use a range of activities to review learner’s knowledge throughout the course and identify any gaps and additional information required
· Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge
· Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows you to identify how much you have learnt and where you might need to do further study or research.
· Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on personal goals and aspirations.
Learners will be completeing a workbook and there may be digital resources available for sharing learner discussions and ideas.
How will my learning be assessed?
The sessions will be delivered live in a classroom venue (or online) and learners will be supported to work through the course content. There will be practical participation, group discussion and written activities during the sessions. There will be opportunities for independent research away from the sessions. You will use a written booklet for learning activities and / or you can use the digital resources (MS forms /Padlet/Kahoot) that will be explained and demonstrated by your tutor.

The course is 2 hours per session and is delivered over 6 weeks or sessions.
Potential Careers
So the course can start on time, it’s important to be ready at the venue (or online) 15 minutes prior to the official start time. Please wear comfortable clothing and use a safe stable chair to practice on. You will also be asked to complete a health screening questionnaire (PARQ) before you begin to be certain you are safe to participate. This will be given to you during the session or can be emailed as a link to complete online. Learners are advised to wear comfortable clothing preferably leggings or comfortable trousers and a t-shirt, also have a warm jumper for the relaxation part and have a drink to hand.
For all courses, it would be useful to have a pen and paper so you can make notes throughout the course. The college has an Additional Learning Support Team who can support students with a variety of learning needs.
