Entry Requirements:
You will require the ability to read and follow instructions, participate in discussions and understand basic maths. This course is practical and requires a degree of manual dexterity for you to participate fully and get the most out of each session. This programme is designed beginners in mind and no prior experience is necessary.

Course Overview
Make your mark – This course will enable you to explore different ways of drawing and mark making, and you will work with a range of tools to have fun with drawing and trying out different approaches and materials.
Activities may include: Mark making to music, exploring different tools and materials with varying movement, density and pressure, exploring line quality to convey mood, building awareness of relevant movements such as abstract and gestural expressionism.
What will I learn?
Throughout the course you will: – Try out different drawing materials – Discuss the work of other artists looking at how the work was created – Try to create at least 5 different marks – Reflect on the connections between sound, mood and emotion within art – Discuss the benefits to your wellbeing that creativity brings
How is the course delivered?
You will learn in a variety of ways:
– You will have access to in class demonstrations showing and prompting you in your explorations of different techniques and materials, encouraging you to share your outcomes and discuss your progress with your tutor and peers – You will have access to handouts – learning materials such as worksheets, samples and examples of relevant artwork – You may be asked to engage in paired activities and complete worksheets to encourage your analytical skills, encourage reflective practice and consolidate your learning – You will be encouraged to share your work and your reflections during group critiques, so that you can help your peers learn and learn from them too – You will produce a range of subject relevant outcomes and written evaluations, supported by your tutor – You may research different artists and techniques further in your own time through sketch pad development and looking for inspiration on line
How will my learning be assessed?
You will be facilitated in reflecting on and evaluating outcomes using subject specific terminology and analytical skills, and asked to discuss your individual interests, aspirations and experience within the subject and take part in a range of simple exercises and discussions in order to negotiate individual learning goals.
Learning can be extended beyond the guided learning hours. We also encourage personal research before and during the course to offer inspiration and context. Optional extra practice and research will support your progress.
Additional Information
What equipment will I need?
Your tutor will come equipped with materials for the session. If you have your own basic drawing materials that you would like to bring with you, please do but this is not essential. You will need to transport your work from the venue and so an A3, waterproof display folder may be useful. Consider that sometimes your work may still be wet.
