Entry Requirements:

Learners should be able to follow written instructions in English at Level 1 and above. Learners will also need a good level of IT skills, a computer, laptop or tablet device with access to the internet. 
The setup of this course enables learners to study independently and flexibly at times convenient to them.
All learners will need to complete an initial assessment prior to access to the course.

Course Overview

This online course is designed for a wide range of learners with some existing knowledge of this area who are interested in improving their understanding of nutrition and health.

This course aims to give learners working in, or intending to work in, settings such as sport and recreation, exercise and fitness, hospitality and catering or healthcare an understanding of nutrition and health, to support their role in the workplace.

Six mandatory units make up the qualification:

Explore principles of healthy eating

Consider nutritional needs of a variety of individuals

Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet

The principles of weight management

Understanding eating disorders

Principles of food safety for the home environment

The course is accessed through our online learning platform, EQUAL. A range of learning resources and activities are included to develop knowledge behaviour and skills associated with supporting individuals with their nutrition in relation to their health.

What will I learn?

The objectives of the course are to help individuals gain an understanding of the impact of diet, nutrition and exercise on their personal health, safe and appropriate exercise and the importance of personal motivation and setting goals and targets.

This qualification aims to:

Increase understanding of the principles of healthy eating and the role of food in maintaining health

Increase confidence in planning and achieving a healthy diet

Provide an understanding of how an individual’s dietary requirements change throughout their life

Provide an understanding of food labelling and the ability to use information from food labels

Provide information on eating disorders

Increase understanding of the role of a healthy diet for weight management

Increase understanding of the principles of food safety in a home environment. “

How is the course delivered?

The course content is designed to take around 120 hours (8 – 12 weeks) to complete both learning and assessments.

Learners will be given access to a comprehensive online learning platform which will provide them with detailed knowledge and information to support their successful completion of each unit.

A tutor will be assigned to the learner once enrolled, they will support you in your induction and be the point of support throughout the length of the course.

Further self-directed research is encouraged to expand learner’s understanding of key topics.

How will my learning be assessed?

Clear deadlines will be provided for each unit to ensure the qualification is completed within the set time frame.

Completion and progress on each unit is clearly identified on the learner’s online dashboard.

Learners will receive regular written feedback throughout the course including opportunities for further development.

Additional Information

You will be completing work in relation to each unit, which a range of activities and questioning to allow you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding. You will complete this online using the online platform.
