Course Overview

This qualification is for learners who have a keen interest in automotive maintenance and repair and are looking to progress within this or the engineering industry. This qualification will provide learners with the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills at the level suiting their ability at entry.

This qualification has been designed to be practical, engaging and motivating, to support Learners in gaining the key knowledge and skills typically required by automotive maintenance and repair employers.

Units covered during this qualification will introduce you to:
• Health and Safety in the Workplace
• Common Tools and Equipment for Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
• Lubrication System Components and Maintenance
• Spark Ignition System Components and Maintenance
• Steering System Components and Maintenance
• Suspension System Components and Maintenance
• Braking System Components and Maintenance
• Wheel and Tyre Construction and Maintenance

How is the course delivered?

Learners will mainly be learning in a practical environment where they will be looking at the different units listed above. Each unit will include one practical assessment and a task write up, knowledge question will have to be answered to complete each unit.

How will my learning be assessed?

All work should be able to be completed in the college environment, some adjustments to write ups might need to be completed in learner own time, together with revision for the online exam. Progress will be visible on their e-portfolio with a clear pie chart of percentage completed after each task is signed off. Ongoing verbal feedback will also be given each week.

Additional Information

Learners must attend all sessions to ensure they are able to complete this qualification. Extra time might be required for online exam resits.

Potential Careers

Once they have achieved their qualification, learners can progress to further training and education in automotive and engineering subjects (including an apprenticeship) or to a job role in the vehicle or engineering maintenance and repair sector.
