Course Overview
The aim of this course is to introduce the learners to the role of a mentor including the advantages and disadvantages of mentoring. They will then look at mentoring agreements and explore the difference between informal and formal agreements. Finally, they will investigate the support available to mentors. Learners will look at the role that effective communication plays in successful mentoring and explore the setting in which mentoring may be put into practice. These may be learners who wish to access this training with a view to progressing to further qualifications or employment within health and social care, to complement other qualifications within health or health and social care, or to develop in their current job role within health and social care.
What will I learn?
During this course learners will find out more about: How mentoring works The advantages and disadvantages of mentoring to both the mentor and mentee What is meant by a mentoring agreement and the difference between formal and informal mentoring agreements Barriers to communication Skills needed for effective communication and record keeping Identifying situations in which a mentor may require support Who can provide support and the types of support they can provide
How is the course delivered?
Learners attend weekly sessions and engage in learning activities to support the learning outcomes. Progressing each week, learning will be structured towards completing both individual and group activities to increase knowledge and understanding which will be assessed using a range of methods.
How will my learning be assessed?
Regular submission of work that will be assessed and reviewed weekly.
Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge
Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows them to identify how much they have learnt and where they might need to do further study or research.
Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on starting points, personal goals and career aspirations.
Additional Information
A workbook will be supplied at the start of the course which will be used by the learner to record their knowledge through activities and open questions, which will be submitted at regular points throughout the course.
