Entry Requirements:

Learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Level 1 and above. Learners will also need a good level of IT skills to be able to access a computer, laptop or tablet device with access to the internet.  The setup of this course enables learners to study independently and flexibly at times convenient to them.

Course Overview

The purpose of this programme is to give learners the skills to support colleagues with mental health problems. These skills will be gained by increasing the learner’s knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions and the principles of mental health first aid and how this can be implemented in the workplace.

This qualification is suitable for learners who wish to raise awareness of mental health, creating a culture of care and the promotion of positive mental health. This course gives learners the opportunity to understand mental health, its associated care and how this can be applied to learners or colleagues in the workplace.

This course may also be useful to develop your career further if you work in customer service, housing, voluntary sector, sport and recreation, hospitality or travel and tourism.

What will I learn?

There are 3 units in the qualification:

Exploring mental health – you will be introduced to different types of mental ill health and understand the factors which may contribute to mental ill health and actions that can be taken

How to support individuals with mental ill health – you will understand how to support individuals with mental ill health and understand their responsibilities and how to protect their own mental health

Understand a mentally healthy environment – on completion of this unit you will know about relevant legislation, understand mentally healthy environments and wellness action plans.

How is the course delivered?

Learners will be given access to a comprehensive online learning platform which will provide them with detailed knowledge and information to support their successful completion of each unit.

Further self-directed research is encouraged to expand learner’s understanding of key topics

How will my learning be assessed?

· Clear deadlines will be provided for each unit to ensure the qualification is completed within the set time frame.
· Completion and progress on each unit is clearly identified on the learner’s online dashboard.
· Learners will receive regular written feedback throughout the course including opportunities for further development.

Additional Information

You will be completing work in relation to each unit, which a range of activities and questioning to allow you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding. You will complete this online using the online platform.
