Course Overview

Learners will gain an insight into the menopause whilst developing an understanding of why and how it affects women all over the world. Exploring the physical and mental impact of the Menopause, alongside learning strategies and self-care techniques with the aim to being better able to manage life and work. Engaging in discussions throughout the course through paired and group discussions, learners will be able to share thoughts, experiences and valuable advice with each other.

What will I learn?

The outcomes for this course can vary upon request by partner organisations, but the core course content will always enable learners to:
– Outline what the menopause is and list the key signs and symptoms
– Discuss and list:
– What is the link between diet and menopause?
– What is the connection between sleep and the menopause?
– Review the 5 ways to wellbeing and how they can be incorporated into daily life
– Participate in at least two wellbeing activities that can have a positive impact during the menopause: – e.g. mindfulness, relaxation, exercise for wellbeing, yoga for relaxation, creative wellbeing.
– Create a self-care toolkit to support individual health and wellbeing pre, during and post menopause
– Identify personal goals and targets to support own health and wellbeing during the menopause

How is the course delivered?

The course will be delivered either at one of our community venues, or online. Please check details when enrolling. The community venue will be in a location, where you can meet people face to face and learn together in a suitably equipped classroom setting.

Learning activities include:
– Active listening and reflective discussion  
– Participation in practical activities during and between sessions
– Personal reflection and note taking
– Completion of learning activities
– Links to recommended websites and apps will be given to aid independent learning 

How will my learning be assessed?

You will be asked to complete a record of your learning to consolidate your new knowledge. This will be done either by hard copy or online (MS Forms). There will also be some worksheets (face to face) and other written exercises. Please ensure that you have a pen and paper/notebook with you.

Additional Information

When attending online, so the course can start on time, it’s important to be ready to join your course 5 minutes prior to the official start time.

The Additional Learning Support Team work across college supporting students with a variety of learning needs in different ways. Support can be requested at enrolment or at any point throughout your course, please speak to your course teacher. Please note, all the teachers are knowledgeable about health and wellbeing but are not GP’s or medically trained. If you have a specific health condition, please speak to your GP in the first instance.
